Spring Wildlife Around Rainbow Lake

A small group of deer, including one buck with antlers, peacefully gathered just outside the house near Rainbow Lake, Arizona.
A peaceful moment captured just outside our home, featuring a group of deer.

One of the most peaceful things about staying at our home on Rainbow Lake is just how close you are to nature. Whether you're sipping coffee on the patio or walking the dog near the water, you’re likely to have some company...and we’re not talking about the neighbor Craig.

Birdwatcher’s Paradise
From tiny songbirds to soaring birds of prey, the skies around the lake are always active. Keep your eyes out for hawks circling overhead or small flocks of finches flitting through the trees. You might even spot a bald eagle if you're lucky.

Ducks and Geese
The lake is home to all kinds of waterfowl, including a regular crowd of ducks and a not-so-quiet group of geese (or “honkers,” as we like to call them). They're part of the rhythm of lake life...sometimes noisy, always entertaining. If you'd like to feed them, please be sure to use food made specifically for ducks and geese.

Deer, Raccoons, and Other Furry Neighbors
Deer are known to stroll right through the neighborhood, especially in the early mornings. We’ve also seen raccoons, a few adventurous local cats, and the occasional skunk passing through—so it’s best to keep an eye (and a leash) on your pup just in case.

A Wild Surprise or Two
Our trail cam once caught a mountain lion passing through at night. Not a common sight, but a good reminder that we’re living right alongside nature up here. Don’t worry, it’s extremely rare, but it definitely added a bit of wilderness cred to our backyard.

Bring the Binoculars and the Dog
Whether you're a casual observer or an avid wildlife enthusiast, there's always something to see around the lake. Just another reason we love it here and why your stay might come with a few unexpected (and totally safe) wildlife sightings.
