Respecting Fire Season - What You Need to Know Before Visiting

"Only You Can Prevent Wildfires."

Every summer in the White Mountains brings long, sunny days, beautiful weather, and unfortunately, high fire risk. As we welcome guests to Rainbow Lake, we want to make sure everyone understands the importance of Arizona’s current fire restrictions and how you can help protect the forest we all love.

Why Fire Restrictions Matter
Arizona is no stranger to wildfire. The dry pine forests and high-desert climate make the region especially vulnerable this time of year. In 2013, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots lost their lives battling the Yarnell Hill Fire. It was one of the deadliest wildfires in U.S. history and a sobering reminder of what’s at stake.

Fire crews across the state are already working hard this season, and they depend on all of us to do our part.

Fire Restriction Stages in Arizona

What This Means for Your Stay
At the time of writing, Stage 2 restrictions are in place across Navajo and Apache counties:

  • No campfires, fire pits, or charcoal grills (including outdoor fire features at vacation rentals)

  • Smoking is only permitted inside enclosed vehicles or buildings

  • Fireworks and other incendiary devices are strictly prohibited

We’ve temporarily disabled any outdoor fire features at our property in accordance with these rules. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

What You Can Do
The good news is that summer here doesn’t need a fire to be memorable. Mornings on the lake, stargazing from the dock, and cozy evenings in the casita can be just as magical. Plus, there are great local spots for s’mores or warm drinks if you're craving that fireside feeling.

Thank You for Helping Us Stay Safe
We’re grateful to our guests for respecting the land, the wildlife, and the local community. Together, we can protect this incredible place for seasons to come and honor those, like the Granite Mountain Hotshots, who gave everything to keep Arizona safe.
